Welcome to the Chitty Three Charities
Chitty has been designed and built for the trip which has been planned to go overland from the UK to Australia. Raising money for charity is the key priority and funds will be targeted in many ways. Fund raising events from garden parties to carnivals will support the main challenge of driving through Europe, Asia, India to Australia.
So what is it all about? Well, a few years ago my wife expressed a keen interest in the fantastic film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, so for a Christmas present I bought her the DVD and she watched over and over again. As this quite clearly proved a success, we then headed to London to see the stage musical of Chitty starring Michael Ball. The show was really excellent, so full of inspiration, and with that in mind I bought the CD soundtrack and ordered a copy of the original book which was written by the James Bond author Ian Fleming. The next birthday I purchased a Corgi toy model of the car and that dampened the fire temporarily - however it was short lived.
One morning my wife turned to me and said 'Do you think you could have ago at building me a Chitty car? .....' and I was daft enough to say 'Yes'. Once the seed was sown I thought that if I could build one, what could we do with it? Raise money for charity by doing what? The answer was to drive it somewhere far, and after much deliberating, we settled on Australia. So this is the plan - build a Chitty car, raise money for three charities by driving overland to Australia. |
